messe essen

Yesterday was my last day working at the greenhouse...and also the last day of a plants/floristry/technology exhibition at a Convention Centre in Essen. My boss asked if I would like to join a group from the greenhouse in attending the exhibits for the afternoon....OF COURSE!!!

So, after working my final shift, we drove the hour to Essen...and I was completely unprepared for the amazing, beautiful exhibits and booths I was about to see!!! Wow!! I know florists have talent...but I was blown away! I have never seen so many roses in my entire life! The bouquets were larger than a hug! I never knew there were so many different kinds of flowers...

There were companies broadcasting their wares, florist schools with students show-casing their mid-year projects, and competitions for florists across Europe... There were big trees (we are talking like tall, 5yo fruit trees), little plants (miniature grasses and flowers), old plants (one olive tree was over 600 years old!), and new seedlings... Most plants/shrubs/trees were in containers and because it was the last day of the exhibition, you could buy them for relatively cheap. We left 30 min before closing and people were leaving with armfuls of cut flowers and potted orchids, roses...you name it!

So many beautiful colours!!

The name of these roses: "Coffee Break". Love it!

Teeny, tiny plant!

The exhibition was an absolutely wonderful way to spend my last day working as a "grower of beautiful things"...now on to my teaching career!!! :)
